WARWICK — The defending boys soccer state champions look set to be an attacking force once again.

Bishop Hendricken was dangerous throughout Thursday night’s meeting with North Kingstown and eventually salted it away in the second half. Jack Mefford completed his hat trick to seal a 5-3 victory at Fracassa Stadium.

The Hawks burst to a 3-0 lead, leaked away a couple of goals on set pieces late in the first half and eventually restored order on a warm late fall night. Charlie Urso netted the second of his two goals on the final touch before the break and Mefford put it out of reach in the 65th minute.

“I feel like we’re the same as last year,” Mefford said. “We lost a couple key players, but the ones who have stepped in have really filled roles.”
