An ex-trucker already convicted in a long-unsolved Texas slaying has now been sent to California to stand trial in the 1993 slaying of a woman whose body was found on an Interstate 10 on-ramp in Desert Center.

Douglas Thomas, 71, was first arrested in 2022 after DNA evidence connected him to a killing in Titus County, Texas in April 1992, according to a press release from the Riverside County District Attorney's Office. He was convicted of that killing and sentenced to 40 years to life in state prison. Thomas was a truck driver for decades and had travelled extensively across the country, Riverside County prosecutors said.
