A major shakeup is underway at some schools in the San Diego Unified School District.

The district has plans to eliminate grades 6-8 at K-8 schools south of Interstate 8 and move all middle school students to Bell Middle School.

Affected schools include Audubon, Bethune and Fulton. They are being given the choice to close their middle school programs at the end of this school year or at the end of the 26-27 school year.

School principals were informed on Friday, and parents were expected to soon receive a letter from the district.
