ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - Illinois libraries will be required to carry opioid overdose reversal drugs under a new law.
The law requires drugs like Naloxone, like Narcan , to be on hand to help reverse an opioid overdose.
Libraries will also have to have at least one staff member working who is trained on responding to an overdose.
Daniel Cuneo, the business and facilities director at the Rock Island Public Library, said this new resource will make a difference when disaster strikes.
"It’s a really easy way that we can help save lives," Cuneo said. “There’s no way that naloxone can be abused. It’s would be under control of the library here and library staff.”
The law will take effect January 1.
