There is no threat to Hawaii from a large earthquake off Russia late this afternoon, officials said.
The magnitude 7.5 quake struck at 4:38 p.m. (Hawaii time) near the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia, Pacific Tsunami Warning Center officials said.
At 5:19 p.m., PTWC officials send in an advisory, “A tsunami threat exists for parts of the Pacific located closer to the earthquake. However, based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude was 7.4 and the quake was centered 70 miles east of Kamchatka at a depth of about 24.5 miles.
