A pastor killed Sunday in Prince George’s County, Maryland, was gunned down by a family friend, according to police.

Benjamin Francis, 59, was shot and killed Sunday evening on Rockport Lane in Bowie, Prince George’s County police say.

“I want people to know that he was a believer,” said his son, Benjamin Francis. “He was definitely a man with a kind heart, a generous heart.”

Police announced Monday that longtime family friend Herbert Mason Jr. was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

“Everybody is just shocked, you know,” said the victim’s son, Benjamin Francis. “It’s just a tragic situation.”
