LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bike to Beat Cancer takes off on Saturday morning in Louisville. So far, it's pulled in over $600,000 in donations.
Chris Crews captains team 182, named for his mother's clock out number. Through riding bikes, he's raised thousands of dollars to help cancer patients for nearly a decade now.
"Bike to Beat Cancer is, for a lot of folks, that victory lap every year," he said. "To come back, time after time, and say, 'I made it. I did it.' Or to honor a loved one. Or honor someone who's going through that fight."
Crews survived cancer, leaving a Hodgkin lymphoma tumor—in his neck—in the dust back in 2011.
A couple years later, his mother, Alberta Crews, was diagnosed with colon cancer. She asked her son for guidance.
