A 36-year-old man was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison after admitting to shooting and killing a 21-year-old man and injuring two other people four years ago at an autobody shop being used as an after-hours club.

Thomas Jeremy Martinez appeared with his attorney, Ted Hogan, before District Judge Douglas Freitag and pleaded guilty to a count of manslaughter in the Dec. 12, 2021 shooting death of 21-year-old Alijah Viramontes.

Martinez, who had been in custody since his Dec. 17, 2021 arrest, entered his plea ahead of a trial set for Monday.

Manslaughter is a second-degree felony, which carries a punishment of two to 20 years in prison. However, he was initially charged with murder, which carries a punishment of five years to life in prison.
