Covington junior Derrick Dunbar didn’t want to go to overtime.
The Lions led since the opening drive against Franklinton, but the Demons had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds.
Senior quarterback Jacob Crain had just scored on a 1-yard run, and the Demons lined up for a 2-point conversion attempt with nine seconds left. A successful try would mean free football at Jack Salter Stadium.
Dunbar made sure that didn’t happen as he tracked down Crain as he rolled out for a sack to preserve a 28-26 nondistrict victory on Sept. 12.
