TOLEDO, Ohio — Fighter jets roared across northwest Ohio Friday night as four F-16s from the 180th Fighter Wing soared over seven high school football games .
The flyovers didn't just kick off games, they also honored military families and students at Purple Star schools, which are recognized for their support of children connected to the military.
At Maumee’s game, fans stood for the national anthem before the jets swept overhead.
“I just thought it was really cool,” said Maumee athletic director Cam Coutcher. "I have two brothers in the military, and I think it's just really special."
“It happens at like college and pro games, but I think it's so cool that the high schoolers get to have that opportunity. I think they're going to feel special,” said Jamey Burson, a first-class airman
