NEWPORT BEACH — Corona del Mar’s offense has generated a lot of publicity this season, but its defense is what delivered in a 28-21 win over Charter Oak on Friday in a nonleague game at Newport Harbor High.

The Sea Kings (4-0) held Charter Oak to a season-low 21 points and got a key fourth-down stop to end the game.

Charter Oak (3-1) drove into Corona del Mar’s territory in the final minutes of the game. On fourth down, Chargers quarterback Corin Berry evaded multiple Corona del Mar tacklers and scrambled for positive yardage, but was tackled short of the first down by Scott Anderson to give the Sea Kings the ball to close out the game.
