A Universal Credit warning has been issued - after 340,000 people had benefits stopped by ignoring a key letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
The DWP plans to transfer all legacy benefit claimants onto Universal Credit in a process called “managed migration”. Claimants who receive one of five legacy benefits have been sent postal notifications outlining the steps they need to follow to move to Universal Credit .
Once they receive a migration letter, claimants have up to three months to make the switch. But if they do not act in this time then they could lose their existing benefits.
