Only a day after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on the campus of a college in Utah, a Pennsylvania lawmaker introduced legislation to honor Kirk with a state holiday.
Rep. Russ Diamond, R-Lebanon County, submitted a memo to his colleagues Thursday asking for support for a bill to make Aug. 1 of every year Charlie Kirk Day in the commonwealth.
Kirk “was a tireless advocate of free speech and civil debate, particularly on the campuses of our nation’s colleges and universities,” Diamond wrote in his memo, with Kirk’s assassination “leaving behind his young wife, children, and a nation that will be poorer without his enormous contributions to our public discourse.”
Kirk, 31, was the leader of the right-wing advocacy group Turning Point USA, and was known for hostin
