A mom has broken hearts on the internet after sharing why her son will always be a twin, even though his brother passed away within his first year of life.

Jessie, who did not share her last name for privacy reasons, told Newsweek that her son Abel was born at 36 weeks, alongside his twin brother, Oren. At 35 weeks pregnant, she and her husband, Matt, received devastating news that Abel had Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards syndrome.

Trisomy 18 is a rare genetic condition caused by having an extra copy of chromosome 18. It often leads to severe developmental delays, congenital abnormalities and life-limiting health complications.

Abel also had an omphalocele, which meant his organs developed outside of his body in a protective sac.
