Sir Elton John has sent shockwaves through his loyal fanbase after posting a snap of himself apparently laid up in hospital sporting a glittering cast. ‌

But it turned out to be nothing more than a clever publicity stunt for his cameo in the forthcoming Spinal Tap II sequel. ‌

The 78-year-old musical icon shared a collection of photos on Instagram depicting himself seemingly confined to a hospital bed, decked out in a medical gown with rhinestone-covered leg casts and a neck brace, while surrounded by bouquets and his co-stars. ‌
