Hickory head football coach Joe Glass led the Red Tornadoes to his 100th career victory, a 42-14 win over Newton-Conover on Friday.
The Hickory-Newton-Conover game is one of the oldest rivalries in North Carolina, dating back to 1923.
Hickory set the pace early, scoring on each of their first four drives to build a 28-0 lead. Newton-Conover answered back near the end of the first half. With the aid of multiple Hickory penalties, the Red Devils engineered a nine-play drive to cut the lead to 21 at halftime.
Hickory established the run early. The opening drive was a 10-play, 79-yard march that culminated in a direct-snap touchdown run by Jaheem Jenkins. It was Jenkins’ seventh carry of the drive. He picked up 41 yards on the opening sequence.
