NEWBURYPORT — Newburyport’s Road to Revolution—a collaboration with community partners including the Museum of Old Newbury, the Custom House Maritime Museum, Central Congregational Church, First Parish Church, Newbury, Old South Church, and the Brigadier General James Brickett–Old Newbury Chapter, NSDAR—presents a special three-day commemoration of the 250th anniversary of Benedict Arnold’s 1775 Quebec Expedition, from Sept. 19–21.
In September 1775, over 1,100 local men—sailors, farmers, teachers, and laborers—stepped off Newburyport’s docks to embark on a bold but secretive mission to invade Quebec. Though the mission ultimately failed, it stands as a remarkable act of courage and ambition at the early crossroads of American independence.
