WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - A man is in custody weeks after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars of equipment from a southern Illinois water district.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the Lake of Egypt Water District for a burglary report at around 9:30 a.m. on August 19.
Deputies learned that multiple brass fittings were stolen from the water district, with the loss valued at more than $19,000.
Later the same day, the sheriff’s office said several of the stolen brass fittings were found in a wooded area near the district.
Then, on Aug. 21, investigators used photographic evidence to identify a male suspect seen entering the property to collect the stolen items as Shawn D. Quertermous.
