Nearly half of the current City of Cockburn council wants to be mayor.
Four members of the 10-person council have put their hands up for the role: current mayor Logan Howlett, deputy mayor Chontelle Stone, and councillors Phoebe Corke and Philip Eva.
Mr Howlett has been mayor since 2009 and says he has “clearly demonstrated strong leadership, honesty, integrity, and a passion for all things Cockburn”.
The pitches by two of his opponents use the theme that it is time for a change.
Cr Stone has been on the council for eight years, and spent the past two as deputy. She says without fresh leadership, nothing will change, and she promises to keep rates low.
Cr Eva also says Cockburn needs a new direction and “strong, practical leadership”.
