An unidentified 17-year-old has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting death of an 82-year-old woman, Birmingham police said.

The teen was arrested in connection with the death of Aldorthia Burrell , who was killed by a stray bullet at her home in the city's Jones Valley neighborhood on Sept. 3.

Police believe a bullet from a nearby altercation struck Burrell while she was on her front porch.

The teen is charged with capital murder and is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.
