Poteet did not get the 2025 season started the way it had hoped, but it will be entering district play on a high note after posting a 53-38 victory over Woodrow Wilson on Friday at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.

It was a game of streaks, with the Pirates racing to a 20-0 lead only to see the Wildcats surge back to within 27-21 early in the second half. It was still 33-28 heading to the fourth quarter, but Poteet scored 20 unanswered points during the final 12 minutes to pull away.
