Gwen Huddle has already accomplished what most high school cross country runners hope to in their careers.

The Napoleon sophomore rewrote the program record books and has a top ranking time in the state, but for the one thing missing in her list of accolades, she is training to do whatever it takes.

“Being a state champion is definitely my biggest priority in high school,” Gwen said. “I really want to place high at state this year after placing 10th last year, and I think I can.”

The Wildcats, ranked seventh in Division III, race a 5K on Saturdays and practice four days a week with two days being harder workout days and two days being recovery days. Pool workouts were implemented into the practice routine last year, helping to further decrease injury risk.
