WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue football 's Big Ten opener against USC will not start on time.
Lightning caused a delay of Saturday's kickoff at Ross-Ade Stadium. The new adjusted start time is no earlier than 3:50 p.m.
Sighting of lightning causes a 30-minute delay. Teams are then allowed a 10-minute warm-up. Each new lightning occurrence triggers another 30-minute delay. Fans were instructed to evacuate Ross-Ade Stadium. Other storms earlier in the day had delayed the opening of the media gate.
Purdue (2-0) and USC (2-0) are playing for the first time as Big Ten opponents. It is the teams' second meeting in West Lafayette and first since 1976.
