CHICAGO — A death investigation is underway on Saturday after authorities say a baby girl died after she was pulled from the water near a South Side beach.

According to Chicago police, the incident unfolded just before 11:30 a.m. near 57th Street Beach in the 5700 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Woodlawn.

While it is unclear exactly what led to the incident, officers said the female infant was pronounced dead on the scene shortly after she was pulled from the water.

Detectives are now conducting a death investigation and autopsy results are pending.
