MARSHALL, MI — An attorney for a group of local residents opposed to Ford Motor Co.’s massive electric vehicle battery plant near Marshall is calling a Michigan Supreme Court decision a “victory.”

On Friday, Sept. 12, the state Supreme Court voided an earlier ruling by the state Court of Appeals , reviving a legal challenge from the Committee for Marshall - Not the Megasite, a citizens’ opposition group.

Construction of the BlueOval Battery Park Michigan is already underway. The mile-long factory is set to produce lithium iron phosphate batteries by licensing technology from China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd., the world’s largest battery manufacturer. Battery production is expected to begin in 2026.
