BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) - The skies over North Dakota turned violent on June 20 and 21, unleashing a wave of tornadoes and straight-line winds that tore through communities and left behind a trail of destruction. In the aftermath, federal officials stepped in to help the state recover.

FEMA announced that Trump-approved federal disaster assistance is now available to North Dakota, aimed at supplementing recovery efforts in the hardest-hit areas. The declaration opens the door for Public Assistance funding, which will help state agencies, Tribal Nations, local governments, and certain nonprofit organizations repair or replace facilities damaged during the storm.

Nineteen counties are included in the declaration: Barnes, Burleigh, Cass, Eddy, Emmons, Foster, Grant, Griggs, Kidder, McLean, Mor
