PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Peoria Fire Department has released photos showing the progress of the city's newest fire house reconstruction.

The photos that were posted on the department's Facebook page show Fire Station 16, which is located in North Peoria at 2105 W. Northmoor Road, with drywall and stairs being erected inside and bricks being placed on the exterior.

The building for Station 16, donated to the department some seven decades ago, was torn down last year, so a new one could be built in its footprint, Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger said in June.

The decision came to build the new firehouse as the old one was not designed to house all the equipment they needed, he said.
