ALVARADO, Texas — A Johnson County man was found dead Saturday in Alvarado Lake after a canoe he was borrowing was found capsized, officials said.

According to a news release from the Alvarado Fire Department, a call about a possible drowning came in around noon Friday after a capsized canoe was found near the Blue Water Oaks Community.

The owner of the canoe, officials said, found the capsized boat in the morning and called police, saying that it had been borrowed on Thursday evening by Johnson County resident Doughlas Bernard Joe.

Personnel from the Alvarado Fire Department, the Alvarado Police Department and the Texas Game Warden responded to the scene and conducted an extensive search throughout the day and evening on Friday, officials said, but found nothing.
