The flag carrier of Papua New Guinea has entered its latest chapter in aviation history, becoming the 25th operator of the Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The Micronesian country, which is located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, is composed of multiple islands and extremely mountainous terrain, meaning that aviation connectivity for the country is vital.
For Air Niugini , the delivery of the A220-300 marks also the country's 50-year independence from Australia (September 16, 1975), with the aircraft set to touch down on Monday (September 15), and will colloquially be known as the 'Peoples Balus'.
