Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev shared a very different kind of tension behind the camera.

Six years after his former costar mentioned that she and Paul weren’t the best of friends when they first started portraying star-crossed lovers on The Vampire Diaries , Paul decided to finally clear up all the rumors surrounding their relationship.

“Long story short, I was taking the role very seriously,” he explained during a Sept. 11 episode of Podcrushed podcast. “She was taking the role very seriously. We were all young actors, and we could tell this was gonna be special.”

“I felt an immense amount of pressure,” he continued. “Perhaps that’s why we didn’t get along.”
