Two deputy mayors want the top job at the Town of East Fremantle.

Mayor Jim O’Neill announced he would be retiring this year after 18 years in the role and said the council needed someone “with different ideas and ways, who is enthusiastic”.

Current deputy mayor Tony Natale and former City of Melville deputy mayor Tomas Fitzgerald have put themselves forwards as replacements.

Cr Natale has been deputy for four years and said he had championed fiscal responsibility, transparency and strategic leadership.

“I am committed to keeping East Fremantle a great place to live, guided by openness, trust and a community approach in every decision,” he said.

Mr Tomas announced his resignation as a City of Melville councillor on September 4 after six years of service, including two as deputy.
