A pedestrian who police say was standing on Dorset Road in Powhatan County was struck and killed by a car early Saturday morning.

Virginia State Police identified the victim as Chance Tevin Burrell, 27, of Powhatan.

Police say Burrell was standing in the southbound travel lane of Dorset Road when he was struck by a 2012 Toyota Camry just after midnight Saturday morning. Police believe Burrell had consumed alcohol before entering the road.

The driver of the Camry, who police identified as a resident of Amelia County, remained on the scene. The driver had not consumed alcohol, and authorities have not charged him with a crime. He was wearing a seatbelt and not injured in the crash. The driver was traveling south on Dorset Road, about 200 feet south of Genito Road, when the crash occurred.
