ANN ARBOR – Michigan linebacker Jaishawn Barham couldn’t make an impact in the first half against Oklahoma last week because of a suspension stemming from a targeting hit in Week 1.

It only took one play Saturday for him to make his presence felt. Michigan opened its first defensive drive with Barham lined up off the edge. He didn’t bite on CMU quarterback Joe Labas’ play fake and closed in an instant when he started to roll to the right, sacking him for an 8-yard loss.

Before the season, Michigan coaches suggested they might use Barham more as an edge rusher rather than at his usual linebacker spot.
