WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Firefighters and community members gathered in downtown Wichita on Saturday for the 9-11 Honor Challenge, a firefighter-themed obstacle race that honors the victims of Sept. 11 and raises money for firefighter wellness.
The event, hosted by the nonprofit Beyond the Call, featured two-person teams competing in fire-ground inspired challenges such as dragging dummies, climbing obstacles, and endurance drills.
“It’s a fitness competition based on fire-themed obstacles and fire grit,” said Konner Knoll, operations director for Beyond the Call. “I think it was super successful. Everything went smoother than I expected, and we had a great turnout.”
Knoll said proceeds will support the group’s work to provide mental and physical health resources for Wichita firefighters.
