The Albanese government has declared it does not focus on GDP percentages when it comes to military spending, despite calls to lift investment.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced $12 billion for a Defence Precinct at Henderson, WA on Sunday, ahead of his trip to the United States.

US defence officials have repeatedly called on the Albanese government to lift defence spending to at least 3.5 per cent of GDP.

Defence Minister Richard Marles told Sky News Sunday Agenda that he focused on dollar figures rather than GDP percentages.

“We've not focused on the GDP number and partly that's because, you know, there are different ways of measuring that across the world,” he said.
