EUGENE, Ore. - As part of a weekend of mourning across the country and across Oregon, local vigils took place to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk who was assassinated while debating college students at Utah Valley University on September 10th.
Organizers in Eugene called for the vigil to begin at 6 p.m. at Alton Baker Park before marching to Hayward Field. Moments of prayer were held throughout the vigil.
On Saturday after Oregon's win against Northwestern University, head coach Dan Lanning offered his thoughts after a reporter asked how he and his players were feeling regarding the current state of the country.
Eugene Police said they were aware of the vigil and estimated between 300-600 people overall attending the event on Saturday.
