Growing up knowing you have a whole other family you've never met is a feeling only familiar to a few people. But it is a very normal experience for siblings Paul Thompson and his sister * Sheila who were separated as babies.

When she was a teenager living in Peterborough in the early 1960s, their mum Maureen fell head over heals in love with an airman from the American military who was based here in the UK. Their whirlwind romance produced two children but he returned to the States before the younger child, Sheila was born.

Circumstances meant Maureen couldn't look after two children, and she only raised one of them - Paul, who was just two when his baby sister Sheila was born while her mother was a guest at St Faiths, a long running institution here in Coventry .
