A Nuneaton taxidriver has become a history maker for his passion for greyhound racing. Jak Knape first worked with greyhounds back in 2011 as a kennel hand to Pauline Spragg.

More than a decade later and the 33-year-old will now be remembered for being the first winning trainer at the new Dunstall Park track in Wolverhampton. It comes just 12 months after he made the decision to combine his full-time taxi job with getting his training license and caring for six racing greyhounds.

On September 8, he saw Sovereign Poppy win the venue's opening race. He described it as a moment he will remember forever.

“I started watching greyhound racing on the TV, and have been hooked since,” said Jak. "To train the first winner here is unbelievable, it’s the biggest moment of my career.
