A disastrous first half gave way to a second-half surge for the Emory & Henry University Wasps, but in the end they were left with nothing but late-game heartbreak.

Lenoir-Rhyne’s Daniel Deneen Jr. made a 32-yard field goal with no time remaining on the clock as the Bears recorded a 31-28 South Atlantic Conference football win over E&H on Saturday in Hickory, North Carolina.

Lenoir-Rhyne (2-1) scored on the game’s first play from scrimmage as Khamoni Robinson raced to the end zone on an 83-yard touchdown run.

The Bears – ranked 21st in the most recent NCAA Division II poll – extended their lead to 21-0 by the time the first quarter had ended and held a 28-3 advantage at halftime.
