EAST LANSING — The Spartans ’ mood coming out their 41-24 win over Youngstown State on Saturday was the mood of a 3-0 team that’s yet to pay for its shortcomings.

That’s the joy of being undefeated — there’s no proof yet that you’re not good enough to do anything.

If Saturday was any indication, however, that proof is coming. Because Saturday was a struggle — at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, and on defense entirely, and against an FCS quarterback in Beau Brungard who’s only twice in 15 starts thrown for more yards than the 242 yards he did Saturday (against Southern Illinois and Northern Iowa late last season).
