It's a tale of two Danville City Council members.

Early voting starts Friday, and voters in the Virginia House of Delegates' 49th District will choose between Republican Madison Whittle and Democrat Gary Miller.

The two candidates are on opposite sides of the political aisle, offering different visions of how government should operate and each coming before voters with their own voting histories on the City Council.

Miller and Whittle are running to replace longtime Del. Danny Marshall, R-Danville, who announced in February that he would not seek reelection this year.

He said at the time he was stepping down to resolve a health issue.

In March, he underwent a lung transplant due to a string of illnesses last year that worsened a condition, pulmonary fibrosis.
