Four names and jersey numbers now adorn the south façade of Tiger Stadium .

On Saturday — at halftime of LSU’s 20-10 win over Florida — the Tigers retired the No. 4 jersey of Charles Alexander , the legendary LSU tailback who rushed for over 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns from 1975 to 1978. He joins Billy Cannon, Tommy Casanova and Jerry Stovall as all-time greats who are immortalized in Death Valley.

Alexander, a native of Galveston, Texas, is LSU’s third all-time leading rusher. He was the first player in SEC history to run for over 4,000 career yards, and he played seven seasons in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals.

“To be perfectly honest with you,” Alexander told The Advocate on Wednesday, “I've never experienced anything like this before. I'm very humbled. Happy for myself.
