A Thornton man reported to police of losing of over $500,000 in a Bitcoin scam.
Pennsylvania State Police reported that on Sept. 1 at 10:09 a.m., a 77-year-old resident from Dilworthtown Road in Thornbury Township, Delaware County, reported the theft in a crime by deception of $507,365.50 in Bitcoin.
Troopers are investigating the incident.
The Federal Trade Commission reminds citizens that no legitimate business or government will ever email, text, or message you on social media to ask for money. And they will never demand that you buy or pay with cryptocurrency.
The agency advises to never click on a link from an unexpected text, email, or social media message, even if it seems to come from a company you know.
