A northern Saskatchewan community radio station survived a $221,000 fraud committed by its former manager only through what a judge described as the “sheer force of will” of its board members.
Michael Bouvier, former manager of the Buffalo Narrows Broadcasting Corporation (CIBN), was sentenced on Aug. 8 to two years less a day of house arrest and three years probation after pleading guilty to defrauding the station between 2017 and 2018. He was also ordered to repay the stolen funds.

“The impact of Mr. Bouvier’s actions on the radio station, and by extension, the community, cannot be overstated,” Judge Michael Segu wrote in his 14-page decision. “It is by sheer force of will of the board members that the radio station even exists today.”
