Island Lake RCMP say four people are dead and one man is injured following a plane crash near St. Theresa Point First Nation.

Police received a report at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday of a downed aircraft about 40 kilometres south of the community, near Makepeace Lake. The flight had departed St. Theresa Point and was destined for Makepeace Lake.

Using the coordinates provided, RCMP chartered a helicopter to reach the site. Search and Rescue personnel from CFB Trenton also deployed an aircraft, dropping two technicians on the ground to provide medical care.

Once on scene, officers confirmed that the 20-year-old pilot had sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. His four passengers — two men, aged 53 and 49, and two women, both 50 — all from St. Theresa Point Firs
