Global News has cut 45 positions across Canada, most of them in British Columbia and Alberta.
Unifor, which represents employees at Global’s parent company Corus Entertainment, confirmed 22 jobs were lost in B.C., 23 in Alberta, and one in the eastern division. Twenty-six of those affected are journalists.

“The most recent Global News layoffs are a devastating blow to local news across the country and to our democracy,” Unifor national president Lana Payne said in a statement Thursday. She added the union will support its members through the changes.
