PITTSBURGH —
Ahead of the WTAE Project Hunger Day of Giving on Sept. 18, "4 The Record" spoke with leaders from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
“This is a serious problem that we have here in southwestern Pennsylvania,” said Lisa Scales, president and CEO of the food bank. Advertisement
In the region, nearly 320,000 people are food insecure, meaning they don’t know when they’ll see their next meal or where it will come from.
One in five are children.
Scales said more and more people are turning to the food bank for help.
“Demand is at an all-time high,” she said. “Higher than it was at the peak of the pandemic.”
Meanwhile, leaders from the food bank recognized the hard work of their volunteers who help in the effort to get the food to people in need.
