Former Detroit Tigers reliever John Brebbia has signed a minor-league deal with the Boston Red Sox, just days after being designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves and electing free agency.

Brebbia has been assigned to Triple-A Worcester. Although he’ll be available to provide depth for the big-league club in the final two weeks of the regular season, he won’t be eligible to pitch in the postseason.

Brebbia, 35, signed a one-year, $2.75 million deal with the Tigers in spring training . He posted a 1.00 ERA with nine strikeouts in nine innings before suffering a right triceps strain in late April . After returning on May 11 , he allowed 16 runs on 19 hits in 9 2/3 innings.
