TEXAS, USA — Republican U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul has announced he will not seek reelection after serving in Congress for 20 years.

"It has been the honor of a lifetime to represent the people of central Texas and to chair the prestigious Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs Committees," the congressman said in a news release.

McCaul was initially elected to Texas' 10th Congressional District in 2005. He said he will continue to serve in that seat for the remainder of the 119th Congress.

The announcement comes just a few weeks after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a new Republican-leaning congressional voting map into law. The district was among those changed in the new map. It will stretch from the Austin area to areas north of Houston.
