An Arapahoe County deputy shot and killed a suspect who allegedly threatened officers with a knife and machete during a shoplifting call on Sunday morning.

The incident began when, at 7:12 a.m., Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shoplifting report at a Walmart, located at 10900 e. Briarwood Avenue, according to a sheriff’s office news release on social media.

There, officers encountered a man allegedly wielding a knife and a machete, sheriff’s officials said.

Authorities said the suspect “advanced toward deputies” with the weapons.

A deputy first deployed a taser, which deemed ineffective on the suspect, before a the suspect continued to advance, according to the sheriff’s office.
